Marketing in Motion

Improve your understanding of business from the most common and unlikely of sources…

I came home one day from a three day marketing conference and sat to relax in front of some Netflix. I picked Ocean’s Eleven (the George Clooney one not the Frank Sinatra one) and snuggled in for the heist. The more I watched, the more I realized that Danny Ocean would be a fantastic project manager to work with. He knows the job, knows his team, knows the threats, and knows how to adjust when things go awry. Just having come from a room full of frustrated marketers who spend ten hours a day working with project managers, here was an ideal leader with a dream team that I would create a winning proposal for in a New York minute.

I was inspired to sit down and write about why Danny Ocean would make such a perfect project manager, and Marketing in Motion was born. In this series, I review movies (one of my favorite things in the world, and the source of inspiration for many of my project successes) and from those movies I glean any nuggets of wisdom to apply to marketing and business knowledge. My observations are purely opinion but based on decades of experience in varying levels of marketing, management, and operations. While I work in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry, the lessons learned are not purely intended for use in that industry. Professionals of all levels, ages, and industries can learn and share from a unique perspective on films that we’ve all seen and enjoyed.
